Some UK journalists have been trying out prototype versions of the Ioniq 5 and the early opinions are very promising indeed!

Show-stopping looks, a thoroughly usable and appealing interior, and sharp dynamics that are rare to find in a heavy family EV
Car Magazine:
Hyundai Ioniq 5 prototype (2021) review: an electric showstopper
What an impressive machine. We can't wait to try a production-spec one but, even in this prototype, the Ioniq 5 brings such a breadth of abilities that other EVs can only dream of. Show-stopping looks, a thoroughly usable and appealing interior, and sharp dynamics that are rare to find in a heavy family EV.

Auto Express:
New Ioniq 5 prototype review
Our first impressions of the new Ioniq 5 are hugely promising. Impressive range and performance stats look set to be a given, while the cabin is wonderfully spacious and the ride is comfortable and composed. It looks set to be more expensive than Volkswagen’s ID.4, but the quality backs up the potential price. We’ll hold back on a rating until we try a finished car, but Hyundai’s new EV sub-brand looks to be onto a winner.

First drive: 2021 Hyundai Ioniq 5 prototype review
Ninety minutes in an incomplete version of what could prove one of the most significant cars of the decade was never going to be enough.

What’s nevertheless clear is that thoughtful ergonomics, good range and performance, and an easy drivability will stand the Ioniq 5 in good stead. What should worry rivals is that this car also possesses in abundance the one quality so many other electric cars lack: personality.

Driving Electric:
Hyundai Ioniq 5 pre-production prototype review
We won’t pass final judgement on the Ioniq 5 until we’ve driven a final production car, but so far we’re very impressed by the Hyundai electric sub-brand’s first model – in particular its fantastically spacious interior. A £40,000 starting price will pitch it against the range-topping Volkswagen ID.3 and the entry-level Tesla Model Y, but the Ioniq 5 is shaping up to be a worthy rival to those cars – and more.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: prototype first drive
There’s so much to recommend the Ioniq 5 for, and very little to criticise, even on the not-entirely-finished prototype we’ve driven so far.
Whether it’s the incredibly modern looks, the chassis that allows for some driving entertainment, the very usable range, the abilities for ultra-fast charging or the interior space, this is already a car we’re inclined to recommend you look at if you’re in the market for a family-friendly EV.

Some video reviews:

The Late Brake Show:
So is this really as good as electric car enthusiasts had hoped? Jonny seemed convinced by the Korean EV efficiency, the retro-future bold styling, massive cabin and boot space, and the charging/power output versatility.
