Korean publication The Elec claims that Hyundai has selected SK Innovation and CATL as the suppliers for its forthcoming E-GMP-based electric vehicles, with SK Innovation handling the batteries of some of the first E-GMP-based models, including the Ioniq 5. Hyundai has reported issues with batteries provided by LG Chem in the Kona EV so its good to hear that the Ioniq 5 will not use LG batteries.

I wonder if this may pose a problem for production given the legal trouble SKI is in. In February, the U.S. ITC (International Trade Committee) had issued a 10 year ban on their batteries due to trade secrets allegedly stolen from LG. Their only hope right now is a re-evaluation from the Biden administration, (which has a roughly a month of time left) claiming it would be catastrophic for their green goals. SKI was constructing 2 plants in Georgia, with the first expected to go online this year.
